Save Money on Your Property Taxes

Mississippi homeowners may be eligible for a homestead exemption, which reduces the taxable value of your primary residence and lowers your annual property taxes.

Who Qualifies?

  • Own and occupy the home as your primary residence on January 1 of the filing year.
  • Property is titled in your name (or your spouse’s).
  • You are a Mississippi resident.

Extra exemptions may apply for seniors (65+), disabled homeowners, and certain veterans.

Documents You’ll Need

  • Valid photo ID
  • Proof of residency (e.g., Mississippi driver’s license with property address)
  • Deed or recorded warranty deed (proof of ownership)
  • Settlement Statement (Closing Disclosure) from your closing
  • Any additional forms required by your county Tax Assessor
